Top Five Corrective Concealers

A Corrective Concealer or Colour Corrective Concealer is a make up product designed to change the undertones of your skin colour before you apply make up.  The most famous example of colour corrective concealers in action is this image posted by Kim Kardashian on twitter (@KimKardashian) while getting her make up done.

BRUISES - ITP, bruising easily, hide a bruise, Bruises, Bruise, itp, low platelet count,These concealers are a wonderful way to blend in and hide any bruises you might have.  Just covering a blue or purple bruise with a flesh coloured concealer is not enough.  What you want to do is correct the undertones of your skin before you apply any make up at all.  I was a little skeptical at first but they won me over in the end.

I now use colour corrective concealers under and around my eyes, as they tend to be the first places to darken into bruising when my platelets are low.

Check out our guide for matching the colour corrector to the colour of your bruises here.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is a very important and interesting vitamin.  Vitamin E is the collective name for a group of fat-soluble compounds with distinctive antioxidant activities.  In addition to its activities as an antioxidant, vitamin E is involved in immune function, regulation of gene expression and other metabolic processes.

It is important that you inform yourself about vitamin E before self administering as vitamin E is an active vitamin that may interfere with other medications.

Vitamin E deficiencies can be just as harmful to the body as taking an excessive amount.  There is a risk of toxicity if vitamin E is taken without the proper precautions and medical support.  This article is not a comprehensive account of the risks and benefits of vitamin E, but an introduction to your own research.

Vitamin E and Health

Many claims have been made about vitamin E’s potential to promote health and prevent and treat disease. The mechanisms by which vitamin E might provide this protection include its function as an antioxidant and its roles in anti-inflammatory processes, inhibition of platelet aggregation, and immune enhancement.

A primary barrier to characterizing the roles of vitamin E in health is the lack of validated biomarkers for vitamin E intake and status to help relate intakes to valid predictors of clinical outcomes.

Vitamin E is famous for its regenerative properties on skin, nails and hair.  The antioxidants in vitamin E actually neutralise the free radicals that cause skin damage.  We are not just talking about looking better.  Remember that you skin is your bodies largest organ, it regulates your temperature, senses your environment, detoxifies the body, absorbs nutrients through the skin and holds our whole body together.  Our skin is a very important part of our lives.

Interactions with Medications

Vitamin E supplements have the potential to interact with several types of medications. A few examples are provided below. People taking these and other medications on a regular basis should discuss their vitamin E intakes with their healthcare providers.

Anticoagulant and antiplatelet medications
 – Vitamin E can inhibit platelet aggregation and antagonize vitamin K-dependent clotting factors. As a result, taking large doses with anticoagulant or antiplatelet medications, such as warfarin, can increase the risk of bleeding, especially in conjunction with low vitamin K intake. The amounts of supplemental vitamin E needed to produce clinically significant effects are unknown but probably exceed 400 IU/day.

ITP, vitamin E, avacado, low platelet count, low Platelets, ITP disease, immune system disease, itp blood, immune thrombocytopenia, itp, Prednisone, Like vitamin C, vitamin E plays a significant role as an antioxidant, thereby protecting body tissue from the damage of oxidation. It is important in the formation of red blood cells and the use of Vitamin K. Many women also use it to help minimize the appearance of wrinkles, and mothers use it to help heal minor wounds without scarring, as it is valued for its ability to soothe and heal broken or stressed skin tissue.

Washing Your Hair Carefully

How to Wash Your Hair

So I have been talking a lot about how, once you start to take a huge amount of meditation, your hair starts to change.  It starts to be crap, dull, brittle and sad looking.

The best advice I can give you is to go very firm, but gentle.  I use 100% Olive Oil Soap from the Olive Oil Soap Company.  They are an Australian based company that ship all around the country.  (And ever time we have ordered a parcel to arrive at home, there is a cheeky extra to sample.  I love these guys)  This is a beautiful luxury soap, but there are cheaper olive oil soaps available online – Have a look here.

Wash Your Hair Less

Try and ease yourself into a routine where you wash your hair a lot less.  Most of us wash our hair too often, stripping it over and over of it’s natural oils.  When I chat to friends about this, they say they need to wash their hair a lot because it is so oily.  When you wash your hair too much and strip all the natural oils away, your scalp starts producing heaps of oils to replace it all.  Your skin goes into over drive.

Instead of washing your hair every single day, try to cherish these oils, as they are protecting your hair.  It is a strange transition, but easing into a less frequent wash will pay off in the long run.

Also, if you can –  Aim to wash your hair at night or afternoon, reducing the need to blow dry your hair in the morning before you head out.

Red / Pink Bruises

The first stage of bruise is usually red or pink.  These are very young bruises and probably hurt a lot still.  In this first stage of bruising the best colour concealer is one with a Green base.

The green is opposite red in the colour wheel and will heap to neutralise the pink in the bruise.

Blue Purple bruise 2 PM Blue Purple Bruise 3

Purple / Blue Bruises

A deep or large bruise will turn blue or purple.  These bruises are the most unsightly and the ones you will want to cover up the most.  During this stage in the Bruises’ life it is best to go with a Yellow based concealer, or any concealer with a yellow tint to it.

The yellow colour is opposite purple in the colour wheel and will heap to neutralise the purple/blue in the bruise.  If you are not sure if your concealer has a yellow tint to it – the best way to find out is to hold it next to another concealer to see the difference.

Yellow / Green Bruises

When your bruise is at the end of it’s life and starting to fade, it will turn yellow or green-ish.  These bruises are the easiest to cover as they are normally quite thin and high under the skin.

During this stage in the bruises’ life it is best to go with a lavender or purple based concealer, or any concealer with a purple tint to it.  Lavender Based concealers for these kinds of bruises are the best.

The Olive Oil Soap Solution

DIETRY - Paleo, Autoimmune protocol, eating for itp, ITP diet, Bruise, itp, low platelet count, living with itp, chemical free

Why would you need to use anything else on your skin when there is Olive Oil Soap available in this world?  I have become addicted to ‘The Olive Oil Soap Company’ soap.  Oh my goodness, they are so yummy!  You wont even need dessert after smelling their peppermint bar– I have one in the bathroom at the moment – so good.

 Give yourself time to adjust

The most interesting thing about using this soap for the first time, was that my body actually freaked out.  After 24 years of chemicals and solvents and foaming salts, why skin was not used to the mild, chemical free slightly foaming soap.  I was using very harsh cleansers in the shower which where stripping my skin of all it’s natural oil.  My skin felt clean, but also so dry that I was then applying chemically constructed moisturiser to my dry damaged skin.  The cycle continued and I was hooked.  If I did not perpetuate the cycle then I would break out and re confirm the fact that I needed those products.

You need to persist while your skin is going a little crazy.  Every skin type will respond differently to the Olive Oil soap, perhaps a few days or maybe even a week.

It can be used on your entire body

The Olive Oil Soap, Chemical Free SkinOnce I got used to the natural soap, I never looked back.  We use them very quickly in our house as everyone uses them for everything.  These soaps are lathered into shaving creams, used as cleansers and make up removers on our faces.  They are the soap we give to our family to use on their children.  I even use it to wash my hair.

Did you say wash your hair?

Yes, I did.  No shampoo.  No conditioner.  I no longer have a bazaar and intricate system of washing, rinsing, combing, conditioning, waiting, detangling and repeating in the shower.  I wash my hair in Olive Oil soap every couple of days.

Like what I was saying about the skin on my face, most conditioners are needed to replace the natural oils that your shampoo strips away from your scalp.

A beautiful old greek woman asked me the other day what I had started to wash my hair with.  She see’s me every day at work and she had noticed the change.  She commented on how strong, shiny and healthy it looked.  I told her it was just Olive oil soap and she giggled back at me, ‘Me too!’   She is older now, but you could not tell.  She used to be a model and was friends with Lenard Cohen when they lived together on Hydra.  She is the same lady who told me the secrets of Lemon Juice and all the wonderful things you can do with it. I wrote about Lemon Juice Here.

Totally chemical free

There is no denying the harmful effects of smearing your entire body with chemicals, toxins and poisons.  Your skin is your bodies largest organ.

I am not sure who said it first, but I now live by the motto that I don’t put anything on my skin that I could not safely put in my mouth. These soaps only have two ingredients, Olive Oil and a single essential oil, depending on the scent you choose – Thats it! Checkout the amazing production process on their website.
