In 2006, Korn frontman JONATHAN DAVIS was admitted to a London hospital for treatment of ITP, forcing the band to pull out of at least one European festival gig. “I started getting these weird bruises all over my body about two weeks ago,” Davis wrote. “I was getting very weak after the shows so I saw a doctor in London Friday. “They rushed me to the hospital. It turned out that I have ITP.” The singer told LAUNCH he’s taking steroids to stabilize his platelet count and is recovering quickly from the disease.

In 2012, WILL CHAMBERS was diagnosed with ITP. On a flight home from Auckland, Chambers noticed some strange bruises on his body. At first, he thought nothing of it. By the time he got home, he was starting to get concerned. “When I got home, I thought, ‘wow there’s something going on here’,” Chambers said. “Waiting was the hardest thing. I had to wait 36 hours for the result. You can’t sleep, you’ve got people telling you to stay positive, which is easy to say. There was nothing I could do,” Chambers told the DAILY. Will Chambers was cleared and given the green light to return to NRL, but still requires regular blood tests.

Former captain of St Andrews University rugby team was killed within days by a horrifying disease which destroyed almost all the platelets in his blood. STEVEN SIMS, 23, passed away at the weekend after arriving at his family home earlier in the week complaining that he was feeling unwell.

A source said urgent blood tests showed that almost all the platelets in his blood were missing. He was rushed to hospital on but, despite numerous blood transfusions and steroid treatment, died on Saturday from bleeding on the brain. It is believed he was killed by the rare but often fatal condition ITP.
