Red / Pink Bruises

The first stage of bruise is usually red or pink.  These are very young bruises and probably hurt a lot still.  In this first stage of bruising the best colour concealer is one with a Green base.

The green is opposite red in the colour wheel and will heap to neutralise the pink in the bruise.

Purple / Blue Bruises

A deep or large bruise will turn blue or purple.  These bruises are the most unsightly and the ones you will want to cover up the most.  During this stage in the Bruises’ life it is best to go with a Yellow based concealer, or any concealer with a yellow tint to it.

The yellow colour is opposite purple in the colour wheel and will heap to neutralise the purple/blue in the bruise.  If you are not sure if your concealer has a yellow tint to it – the best way to find out is to hold it next to another concealer to see the difference.

Yellow / Green Bruises

When your bruise is at the end of it’s life and starting to fade, it will turn yellow or green-ish.  These bruises are the easiest to cover as they are normally quite thin and high under the skin.

During this stage in the bruises’ life it is best to go with a lavender or purple based concealer, or any concealer with a purple tint to it.  Lavender Based concealers for these kinds of bruises are the best.

A quick note about covering up bruises…

And just for the record – We do not believe in hiding domestic violence (as some people thought we were trying to do)  Domestic violence and the physical signs of domestic abuse are not the shame of the victim but the abuser.  We believe that is it a communities responsibility to not turn away from or hide domestic violence.  If you have found yourself in a less than desirable relationship… there are lovely people who would probably be interested in having a chat with you…. Hi, I just came across this page and found it to be very helpful. I have ITP that is caused from Lupus, but I also have something called hemosiderin staining on both of my shins. It’s light brown spots that formed originally from bruises that just never healed. I believe it is left over iron and it has “stained or tattooed” my skin. I want to know what color concealer would be best for this type of bruise?
Thanks for any help you can give!

I have been told that my platlet count may need for me to have Nplate shots. Do you know if you can ever go to monthly shots or ever stop taking the shots. I have searched many web sites and no mention. Have you found anything to eat that helps your count increase? I was diagnosed in 2010 and have had two prednisone treatment since then, the last being this spring. How do you feel about the Nplate treatments. Have you ever skipped a week ? I am extremely upset and want some answers from others like me. I retired from teaching and want to travel some more but feel I will have to do little traveling since I will have to take the weekly shots. Especially to see my daughter and grandsons. Thank you!

I personally have not taken Nplate before so I am not sure about the treatment details. I get the impression that every patient is different and your hematologist will help you. I have skipped my oral immune suppressants many times before and everything has been ok. I was a teacher too, and I would say leaving teaching was very helpful to my health! Ha!
